Call Description: Successfully estimating the future conditions– in both short and longer horizons - is a perquisite for designing, implementing and operating efficient transportation systems and infrastructure. As a result, transportation forecasting has attracted considerable attention by both the transportation academia and practice, with efforts ranging from classical statistics to a vast array of computational intelligence (CI) techniques.

The Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA) is looking for a highly motivated Survey Statistician. RITA coordinates the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) research programs and is charged with advancing rigorous data collection and analysis and the deployment of cross-cutting technologies to improve our Nation's transportation system. This position is located within the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) in the Office of Survey Programs. The organization is seeking a talented professional who can work collaboratively with all levels of project staff, key internal and external stakeholders, and others to explore innovative methods of data collection and survey design in improving and initiating survey programs. Strong communication, coordination, and management capabilities are needed to be successful in this important role. The survey statistician is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing transportation surveys, as well as analyzing, publishing, and disseminating data that describe the characteristics, performance, use, and impact of the Nation's transportation systems.
