Program Details
This workshop is aimed at novice users of driving simulators who are not familiar with driving behavior research methods and data analysis techniques. The workshop covers driving simulator hardware and software issues, research topic selection, design and conduct of research, and data analysis methods. Examples of research from traffic operations, traffic control device evaluations, and roadway design will be used to illustrate concepts.

This workshop reveals results of a competition to evaluate the accuracy of various data analytic methodologies with particular attention to missing and incomplete data and with the following two data sets: a traffic information data set for short-term traffic flow prediction and an incomplete transit O-D table. The competition was open to neural networks, fuzzy predictors, evolutionary and genetic algorithms, decision and regression trees, support vector regression, hybrid approaches, and more.
